Aims and Objectives

The main aim of the Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing is to enable Learners to gain the necessary practical skills and knowledge in order to provide Creative Hairdressing treatments to the general public and to gain employment in the Hair Industry. The qualification is suitable for Learners aged 16 and over and is designed to provide occupational competence at Level 3. It also provides a sound platform into further learning at Levels 3 and 4

The ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing is suitable for inclusion as part of a study programme for 16-18 year olds as well as meeting all of the skills and knowledge required for employability at Level 3. In addition to the 6 mandatory units, this qualification has a selection of 12 optional units allowing the Hairdressing pathway to be tailored to meet the specific needs and interests of the Learner and to suit the requirements of local employment
6. Learners may progress onto the ITEC Level 4 Certificate in Trichology, an Apprenticeship at Level 3, or a Technical Level qualification at Level 3 such as the ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing for All Hair Types 601/0147/7
7. This qualification does not form part of an Apprenticeship 8. This qualification is recognised by all relevant professional bodies within the Hairdressing Industry for membership and insurance purposes at Level 3

Requirements for Undertaking this Qualification

Grade 7 or the ITEC Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing prior to commencing the ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing; however, exemptions may be made for adult returners with experience of the workplace.
