Aims and Objectives
The main aim of the ITEC Level 2 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing is to enable Learners to gain the necessary practical skills and knowledge required by the Hairdressing Industry. The qualification is suitable for Learners aged 16 and over and is designed to provide occupational competence at Level 2. It also provides a sound platform into further learning at Level 3

- Learners may progress onto the ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing 601/5798/7, an Apprenticeship at Level 2 or 3, or a Technical Level qualification at Level 3 such as the ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing for All Hair Types 601/0147/7
- There is also a smaller ITEC Level 2 Certificate in Hairdressing available which has fewer mandatory and optional units, narrowing the number of services a Learner can offer
- The ITEC Level 2 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing is suitable for inclusion as part of a study programme for 16-18 year olds as well as meeting all of the skills and knowledge required for employability at Level 2. In addition to the 5 mandatory units, this qualification has a selection of 10 optional units allowing the hairdressing pathway to be tailored to meet the specific needs and interests of the Learner and to suit the requirements of local employment
- This qualification does not form part of an Apprenticeship 8. This qualification is recognised by all relevant professional bodies within the Hairdressing Industry for membership and insurance purposes at Level 2
Requirements for Undertaking this Qualification
Grade 7 or the ITEC Level 1 Award in Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector prior to commencing the ITEC Level 1 Diploma in Hairdressing; however, exemptions may be made for adult returners with experience of the workplace.
